The last 5 years we’ve been pushing the boundaries in the beginning of the season for the hunt for halibut. During these years we’ve seen both incredible numbers and sizes, but what we’ve experienced the last 2 years in May is beyond any expectations! In 2023 a total of 11 halibuts over 200cm were caught here on Sørøya, and at least the double were lost during the fight. In 2022 we saw similar numbers, and had a cracking weekend with 7 over 200cm breaking the surface…

In the earlier years, we definitely caught big fish, but we started really cracking the codes in 2022, and now we see clear patterns. Now, knowing what we know and being able to plan the days targeting spesificly these monsters that hunt pretty selectively, we’re in contact with monster halibuts on pretty much every session, much like in the late autumn!

Coming to Sørøya in May could be an exciting idea for seasoned anglers with the main focus on catching some huge fish. The chance of catching a giant is peaking, and this monsterfish is hard to fight, and sometimes even harder to secure and land. And remember: booking a guide could save you from those problems, and raise your chances significantly.

Now you know, guys – May is one of the new peak sesons for any anglers going to Norway. If I were to choose time and place to chase a monster halibut, Sørøya in May would be it.
